Course Description

Program Description In International Studies, students learn about the world around them through a number of exciting, unique and diverse academic experiences: participate in field courses and study abroad; study a second language; experience the problems of developing nations firsthand; initiate change by working within and between countries; and discover different cultures that exist within countries, states and towns. Our program is offered in two streams: Development Studies: Courses in the Development Studies stream provide students with a broad, interdisciplinary education focussing on the conditions and problems of less-developed countries. This stream focuses on the history and theory of economic development around the world, and the geographic and environmental consequences of development. International Cooperation and Conflict: This stream provides students with the opportunity to study the relationships between states, the impulses and avenues used for international cooperation, as well as the reasons for and complexity of conflict in the international arena. Both cooperation and conflict in the international arena, of course, is not necessarily limited to states, and courses in this stream examine these two issues at a variety of levels.
